MALL
Hello everyone!
Let’s talk about MALL
Mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) is language learning that is assisted or enhanced through the use of a handheld mobile device. MALL is a subset of both Mobile Learning (m-learning) and computer-assisted language learning (CALL).
MALL is beneficial for language learners for many reasons. First of all, the average language learner has a mobile phone. (Over 90% of people in developed countries have a mobile phone, compared to only 40% who have desktop computers). In addition, most people take their phone wherever they go. This enables them to study anytime, anywhere. And assuming their language learning apps and activities are enjoyable, they’ll be motivated to continue studying outside of class.
What makes MALL attractive for language learners?
- Learners find learning languages with MALL devices quite motivating due to their portability and ubiquity.
- They promote interactivity, collaboration and engagement in various learning activities.
- Personalize learning by giving learners control over what, where, when and how they will learn, and create a sense of community.
- It can provide a blended learning atmosphere which includes both face-to-face and online and offline learning experiences.
- Having a wide range of features makes mobile devices more favorite instructional materials in learning.
